Hello World!

Why Hello there!

It is just so kind of you to stop by. How about I start out and tell you a little about myself?

Well... my name is Coral Townshend Fortuna

My first name, Coral, comes from a Bahá'í prayer for Marriage that was a big part in my Mom and Dad's wedding. Here it is...

He is God! O peerless Lord! In Thine almighty Wisdom Thou hast enjoined marriage upon the peoples, that the generations of men may succeed one another in this contingent world, and that ever, so long as the world shall last, they may busy themselves at the Threshold of Thy oneness with servitude and worship, with salutation, adoration and praise. “I have not created spirits and men, but that they should worship Me.” Wherefore, wed Thou in the heaven of Thy mercy these two birds of the nest of Thy love, and make them the means of attracting perpetual grace; that from the union of these two seas of love a wave of tenderness may surge and cast the pearls of pure and goodly issue on the shore of life. “He hath let loose the two seas, that they meet each other: Between them is a barrier which they overpass not. Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye deny? From each He bringeth up greater and lesser pearls.” O Thou kind Lord! Make Thou this marriage to bring forth coral and pearls. Thou art verily the All-Powerful, the Most Great, the Ever-Forgiving. -‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Pretty cool, huh?

As for my middle name, I am named after the Hand of the Cause of God, George Townshend. Here's what I know about him...
Townshend was born in Ireland around the time that Bahá'u'lláh revealed the Lawh-i-Aqdas, the Most Holy Tablet/Tablet to the Christians. He was a well-known writer and clergyman serving as the Canon of the St. Patrick's Cathedral and Archdeacon of Clonfert before he became a Bahá'í.

Bahá'u'lláh, `Abdu'l-Bahá, or Shoghi Effendi appointed for life the Hands of the Cause of God whose main function was to propagate and protect the Bahá'í Faith. Hands of the Cause of God are considered to have achieved a distinguished rank in service to the Cause of God.

George Townshend started correspondence with `Abdu'l-Bahá. He later became a Bahá'í declaring his belief in Bahá'u'lláh in a poem he wrote to `Abdu'l-Bahá. He dedicated nearly forty years of his life to the promotion of the Bahá'í Faith. It was his activities in the Faith, including his writing of two books, “The Heart of the Gospel” and “The Promise of All Ages”, that created ever increasing tensions between Townshend and the other clergy, and eventually caused Shoghi Effendi to call for his resignation as the Canon of the St. Patrick's Cathedral.

In 1947, at the age of 70, Townshend renounced his orders to the Anglican Church and wrote a pamphlet to all Christians under the title “The Old Churches and the New World Faith” that was sent out to 10,000 so-called “responsible people” in the British Isles on the occasion of this resignation. He then moved to a small bungalow outside of Dublin where he spent his last decade. George Townshend was one of the founding members of the Dublin Local Spiritual Assembly and in 1951 was designated by Shoghi Effendi as a Hand of the Cause of God.

With this designation he rendered many services to the Beloved Guardian, mainly in the area of writing. He was the author of books, poems and prayers one of which is the well known hallowed reed prayer, and Shoghi Effendi thought of him as 'the best writer we have . . . the pre-eminent Bahá'í writer’ and ‘whose scholarship was praised by the Beloved Guardian.' He wrote the introduction to Shoghi Effendi's only book "God Passes By" which recounted the events of the first century of the Bahá'í Faith. He also completed another of his own books, "Christ and Bahá'u'lláh", which Shoghi Effendi called 'his crowning achievement' shortly before dying in 1957, at the age of 81. Shoghi Effendi’s cable to the Baha’i world of his passing described George Townshend as ‘indefatigable, highly talented, fearless defender of the Faith of Bahá'u'lláh.’

I was born on , Idal (Justice) the 6th day, Rahmat (Mercy), of Nur (Light) 164 BE. In the Javab (Answer) year of the Jad (Generosity) Vahid
On the Gregorian Calendar that would be June 11th 2008 at 7:30 PM.
